Codes of Ethics that have meaning to me

Code of Ethics of NAEYC

P-2.3—We shall inform families of and, when appropriate, involve them in policy decisions.

P-2.5—We shall make every effort to communicate effectively with all families in a language that they understand. We shall use community resources for translation and interpretation when we do not have sufficient resources in our own programs.

P-2.4—We shall involve the family in significant decisions affecting their child.

Code of Ethics of the Division of Early Childhood

1. We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture.

2. We shall empower families with information and resources so that they are informed consumers of services for their children.

3. We shall provide services and supports to children and families in a fair and equitable manner while respecting families’ culture, race, language, socioeconomic status, marital status, and sexual orientation.

I choose to put these few codes of ethics on my blog to remind us of our responsibilities to families. I believe that part of working in the field of education, we have an obligation to not only educate the child, but their parents as well. Education should be a collaboration between the teacher and the family. When we educate the whole family then we equip them with the knowledge and power to assist us to make the best decisions for their children. We empower them to be active participates in their child's education.
